The Averon Home: Martina's husband, Michael, was killed in 1850 returning from a trip to the mines during the Gold Rush. She was then forced to distribute her lands to family heirs after California became part of the United States. Penniless in her last years, Martina was cared for by a daughter, Maria Guadalupe Averon. Martina died at the Averon home in December 1890. The central portion of the home survives today behind the Capitola Mansion Apartments on Capitola Avenue.
